Mash-up idea

I have no idea if this has already been done, but I’ve had the idea for a mash-up going through my head for the past two days. As always, I ended up running it past Pete who seems to be my sounding board for this kind of stuff during a little, tiny, baby IM session….

Me: MASH-UP: MIKA Grace Kelly vs. Robbie Williams Strong & Angels & bits of Let Your Love Be Your Energy & bits of The Road to Mandalay (the pom-pom-pom bits)
Pete: oooh
Me: I wish I had an MP3 DJ deck for my PC
Me: I’d make that
Pete: there must be some freeware!!!
Me: I keep listening to MIKA and thinking I could hook some Robbie in there
Me: I think it would fly off my server
Pete: it’s got to be done
Me: I want to talk to you
Me: Then the intro to Strong
Me: And early morning when I wake up….I look like Kiss but without the make-up…I try to be like Grace Kelly
Me: I could be blue etc.
Me: Why don’t you walk out the door….
Me: You think I strong, you’re wrong
Me: You’re wrong
Me: FFS
Me: I should make this!
Pete: DO IT
Pete: it sound scool
Me: That bit where it goes Say what you want just satisfy yourself and goes really high?
Me: And then pauses?
Pete: befoer the heey!
Me: No – the piano restarts (about 2.16) with I could be brown, I could be blue but high. Well, Angels goes in there. And through it all…
Me: The bridge, then the pause then the light piano and back to the chorus…
Me: I can hear it in my head
Pete: you have to make this

Now all I have to do is find some free MP3 DJ mixing stuff. Hmmm, maybe my X-Fi sound card has something I can use in all the Creative Studio software that came with it? We’ll see.

Mika – Grace Kelly

Damn you, Pete, damn you all to heck!

I got an innocent message from Pete the other day that simply said

Mate, listen to Grace Kelly by MIKA. If you do not like it, I will give you £2.
Well, I would be a fool to not pass up an opportunity to get some free money so I looked MIKA up on MySpace and YouTube (below) and listened to the song and watched the video (lightsaber fights with fluorescent tubes anyone?) and totally loved it. The references in the song to Freddie do indeed, according to his website, refer to Mr Mercury himself who just happens to be MIKA’s #1 musical influence.

I’ve since downloaded the single on iTunes and am happily listening to it on single-repeat which I never, ever do. In the word’s of Pete I dare you to listen to this and not smile.
